Born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1946, Michael Whitlow now resides in both the Northern California countryside and the Mexican Riviera. Initially headed for a career in business administration, Whitlow was drawn to art when upon graduating from San Jose State University he spent nearly a year touring Europe and some of its greatest museums. The vast wealth of art that he discovered was a revelation to him, being particularly drawn to the realism of the old masters. “I remember feeling moved by the exacting detail and the beautiful interplay of light and dark present in works by the likes of Vermeer, Rembrandt and Rubens” Whitlow stated.
Upon his return to America, the aspiration to paint came suddenly to Whitlow. “I was entering a new phase in my life and felt a deep yearning for more spiritual insight. My desire to paint was awakened during this transformative time and I intuitively knew this is what I wanted to do and could do successfully”. Embarking on a journey of intense research, Whitlow tapped into his artistic talent hitherto unknown to him. Concerning his education and development as an artist, Whitlow declares, “I was totally self-taught and a realist from the beginning. Starting out very traditional in my painting, I developed certain techniques which I later discovered to be similar to those used by old masters. I was like a seventeenth century painter living in the twenty first century and it seemed as though the more understanding I perceived within myself, the more realistic my paintings would become”. In 1971, Whitlow launched his career as an artist.
After 39 years as a professional gallery artist exhibiting in Hawaii, Australia and California, Whitlow has evolved into an award winning artist with numerous Best In Still Life and Best In Show honors. Working in the realist genre, he aims to convey the beauty and tranquility he finds in nature to his audience and is constantly seeking to expand his mastery of painting. Whitlow states, “Painting makes me feel happy and serene. If someone can feel the sense of joy and peacefulness I feel when I paint, then we have communicated something very intimate and beautiful. This touches upon the greatest art of all, the art of our humanness”.

Shiva and Vishnu are regarded as Mahādevas (“great gods” ) due to their central positions in worship and scriptures.[3] These two along with Brahma are considered the Trimurti—the three aspects of the universal supreme God. These three aspects symbolize the entire circle of samsara in Hinduism: Brahma as creator, Vishnu as preserver or protector, and Shiva as destroyer or judge. The Hindu trinity consisted of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the followers of the last two formed two major sects.
The Tridevi or triplet goddesses of Hinduism have equal importance as the Trimurti and function as their consorts. Brahma is creator, so he needs knowledge or goddess Saraswati (Vaak) to create. Vishnu is preserver, so he needs the goddess of wealth and prosperity, goddess Lakshmi (Shri). Finally, Shiva is destroyer and re-creator, so he needs goddess Parvati, Durga, or Kali for power. They are the various manifestations of Goddess, Shakti.

method. But, Reverend Sir, has Nibbana any qualities in common with
other things, — something that might serve as an illustration or

“In the matter of form, great king, it has not. But in the matter of
qualities, there are some illustrations and examples which might be
employed.”
“Good, Reverend Nagasena ! And that I may receive, even with
reference to the qualities of Nibbana, some little light on a single point,
speak quickly ! Quench the fever in my heart ! Subdue it with the cool,
sweet breezes of your words !”
Great king, Nibbana has one quality in common with the lotus.
Two qualities of water.
Three qualities of medicine.
Four qualities of the great ocean.
Five qualities of food.
Ten qualities of space.
Three qualities of the wishing- jewel.
Three qualities of red-sandalwood.
Three qualities of the cream of ghee.
Nibbana has five qualities in common with a mountain-peak.
99. ONE QUALITY OF THE LOTUS
Just as the lotus is not polluted by water, so also Nibbana is not
polluted by any of the Depravities.
100. TWO QUALITIES OF WATER
Just as water is cool and quenches fever, so also Nibbana is cool
and quenches every one of the Depravities.
But again further, — ^water subdues the thirst of the races of
men and animals when they are tired and weary and thirsty and
overcome with the heat. Precisely so Nibbana subdues the thirst
of Craving for the Pleasures of Sense, of Craving for Existence,
of Craving for Power and Wealth.

Just as medicine is the refuge of living beings oppressed by
poison, so also Nibbana is the refuge of living beings oppressed by
the poison of the Depravities.

But again further, — medicine is life. Precisely so Nibbana
is the Life Everlasting.
