The Eye of Providence (or the all-seeing eye of God) is a symbol showing an eye often surrounded by rays of light or a glory and usually enclosed by a triangle. It is sometimes interpreted as representing the eye of God watching over humankind (or divine providence).[1][2][3] In the modern era, the most notable depiction of the eye is the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States, which appears on the United States one-dollar bill.

Religious use[edit]
Eye of Horus amulet, antique
Many religions have used the image of an eye in their religious symbolism. One of the earliest known examples (from Egyptian mythology) is the Eye of Horus.
However, the association of an eye with the concept of Divine Providence did not emerge until well into the Christian era, in Renaissance European iconography, where it was an explicit image of the Christian Trinity. Seventeenth-century depictions of the Eye of Providence sometimes show it surrounded by clouds or sunbursts.

An early Masonic version of the Eye of Providence with clouds and a semi-circular glory
Today, the Eye of Providence is usually associated with Freemasonry. The Eye first appeared as part of the standard iconography of the Freemasons in 1797, with the publication of Thomas Smith Webb’s Freemasons Monitor.[7] Here, it represents the all-seeing eye of God and is a reminder that a Mason’s thoughts and deeds are always observed by God (who is referred to in Masonry as the Great Architect of the Universe). Typically, the Masonic Eye of Providence has a semi-circular glory below the eye. Sometimes the Eye is enclosed by a triangle.

Popular among conspiracy theorists is the claim that the Eye of Providence shown atop an unfinished pyramid on the Great Seal of the United States indicates the influence of Freemasonry in the founding of the United States. This was dramatized in the 2004 Disney film National Treasure. However, common Masonic use of the Eye dates to 14 years after the creation of the Great Seal. Furthermore, among the members of the various design committees for the Great Seal, only Benjamin Franklin was a Mason (and his ideas for the seal were not adopted). Indeed, many Masonic organizations have explicitly denied any connection to the creation of the Seal.[8][9]

“If You Could Read My Mind”
If you could read my mind, love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old-time movie
‘Bout a ghost from a wishin’ well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I’m a ghost that you can’t see
If I could read your mind, love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind the drugstores sell
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won’t read that book again
Because the ending’s just too hard to take
I’d walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three-way script
Enter number two
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love, let’s be real
I never thought I could act this way
And I’ve got to say that I just don’t get it
I don’t know where we went wrong
But the feeling’s gone and I just can’t get it back
If you could read my mind, love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old-time movie
‘Bout a ghost from a wishin’ well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But stories always end
And if you read between the lines
You’ll know that I’m just tryin’ to understand
The feelings that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way
And I’ve got to say that I just don’t get it
I don’t know where we went wrong
But the feeling’s gone and I just can’t get it back

Spirulina is a genus of the phylum Cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are classified as either blue-green algae or as blue-green bacteria. Spirulina is often referred to as a so-called “green food” along with wheat grass, barley grass, and chlorella. [1]

Spirulina is coveted due to the wide range of nutrients it contains. These include proteins, chlorophyll, carotenoids, minerals,gamma-linolenic acid, and some unique pigments. These pigments contribute to its bluish colour. Spirulina is claimed to have antiviral, cholesterol lowering, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, antiallergic, and immune modulating action.[1]
Contents |
Food Sources
Spirulina is a form of blue-green algae. The most common species used as food supplements are Spirulina platensis and Spirulina maxima which are harvested either from outdoor tanks or in lakes in Mexico, Central and South America, and Africa.
Uses
The following are the primary uses for spirulina: [1]
-
- In an animal study, spirulina exerted an inhibitory effect on the ability of herpes simplex virus type 1 from penetrating cells. In other in vitro studies, spirulina has been shown to inhibit the replication of cytomegalovirus, measles virus, mumps virus, influenza A virus, and HIV-1. Spirulina works to inhibit penetration into cells of these viruses as well. More recent research has been done using spirulina to inhibit HIV-1 replication in human T-cell lines, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and Langerhans cells with promising results being shown with Spirulina platensis.
- Immune Modulation
-
- Spirulina has been shown to inhibit chemically induced anaphylactic shock and serum histamine levels in rats. In another animal study, spirulina has been shown to inhibit local allergic reactions. It has been concluded that spirulina inhibits mast-cell mediated immediate-type allergic reactions in vitro and in vivo.
- Nutrient Source: Spirulina is a source of dietary protein, B-vitamins, and iron.
Other proposed uses for spirulina include:
- weight loss
- attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- hayfever
- diabetes
- premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
- stress
- fatigue
- anxiety
- depression
- improved mental functioning
Prescribing Considerations
The recommended dosages have not yet been established. To determine what your specific requirements are talk to your naturopathic doctor or other trained medical professional.
- Spirulina can be found in a variety of “green food” supplements in the form of capsules, tablets, flakes, and powders.
- Adult: typical doses range from 250mg – 5g daily.
Safety
Spirulina is generally regarded as safe, yet spirulina and blue-green algae products are very susceptible to contaminants and the source of the spirulina or blue-green algae must be considered.[2]
-
- Spirulina can accumulate heavy metals such as mercury and therefore only reputable sources should be used.
- Contaminated blue-green algae can cause liver damage, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, weakness, thirst, rapid heartbeat, shock, and death. Don’t use any blue-green algae product that hasn’t been tested and found free of mycrocystins and other contamination.
-
- Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and allergic reactions can occur, yet they are rare.
- Children: Spirulina is not recommended for children or adolescents.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
- Spirulina should be avoided during this time as there are not sufficient studies to determine its safety and because the risk associated with contaminated spirulina is too high.
- Contraindications
-
- hypersensitivity to any component of spirulina
- Precautions
-
- Spirulina can accumulate heavy metals such as mercury and therefore only reputable sources should be used.
- Auto-immune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus, SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), pemphigus vulgaris (a skin condition), and others.
- Blue-green algae might cause the immune system to become more active, and this could increase the symptoms of auto-immune diseases.
- Phenylketonuria: The spirulina species of blue-green algae contains the chemical phenylalanine. This might make phenylketonuria worse.
- Drug Interactions:
-
- Medications that decrease the immune system (Immunosuppressants): By increasing the immune system, blue-green algae might decrease the effectiveness of medications that decrease the immune system.
- Some medications that decrease the immune system include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.
- Nutrient Interactions
-
- No known interactions

Spyro Gyra /ˌspaɪroʊˈdʒaɪrə/ is an American jazz fusion band that was originally formed in the mid-1970s in Buffalo, New York, United States. Their music, often featured on smooth jazz radio stations, combines jazz with elements of R&B, funk and pop music. To date, the band has released over 30 albums and sold over 10 million copies. They average about 100 live performances per year. Popular singles include “Shaker Song” and “Morning Dance” (1979).
With the exception of founding bandleader Jay Beckenstein (alto saxophonist and songwriter) and Tom Schuman (keyboardist), the personnel has changed over time, and between the studio and the live stage. Today, guitarist Julio Fernandez is also in his third decade with the band.
The band’s name is a misspelling of Spirogyra, a genus of green algae, which Beckenstein had written about in a college biology paper.

When people speak of Gay Paree,
They think that when they say Paree is gay,
They mean that gay Paree is gay;
It is! Not in a way Paree
Was gay and yesterday Paree;
It means today that gay Paree is “Gay!”
Not that gay!
They say Paree has always been “That way!”
Along the banks of the Seine,
Just take a walk now and then,
You’ll meet some interesting men: Gay Paree!
Along the Rue Madeleine,
Each evening ’round about ten
You’ll see it time and time again: Gay Paree!
If you’ve a soiree to spare,
Go to the Follies Bergeres,
You’ll see such gaiety there,
C’est la vie!
Around the Rue des Beaux-Arts,
Where all the cabarets shows are
I mean, well, really those are,
You’ll agree,
What they mean when they say Gay Paree!
Du Foubourg Saint Honore,
Where all the millionaires play,
Is also I’m so glad to say: Gay Paree!
The Rue de Rivoli Arcade
Where fancy goods are displayed,
There’s also plenty of rough trade: Gay Paree!
And in arrondissement eight,
The Champs Elysees I would rate
Perhaps the one thing that’s straight as can be.
And at the Cafe de la Paix,
If you are heading that way,
They drink a toast ev’ry day around three;
They make each moment as gay
As Le Quatorze of Juillet;
That’s what they mean when the say
“Gay Paree!”

Le Jazz Hot
‘Bout twenty years ago way down in New Orleans,
A group of fellas found a new kind of music
And they decided to call it…jazz,
No other sound has what this music has.
Before they knew it, it was whizzin’ ’round the world,
The world was ready for a blue kind of music
And now they play it from Steamboat Springs to La Paz.
Oh, baby, won’t you play me
Le jazz hot maybe
And don’t ever let it end.
I tell ya, friends, it’s really something to hear,
I can’t sit still when there’s that rhythm near me.
Also, baby, le jazz hot maybe
What’s holdin’ my soul together.
Don’t know whether it’s morning or night,
Only know it’s sounding right.
So come on in an’ play me
Le jazz hot, baby,
‘Cos I love my jazz
Hot!
Before they knew it, it was whizzin’ ’round the world,
The world was ready for a blue kind of music
And now they play it from Steamboat Springs to La Paz!
When you play me le jazz hot baby,
You’re holding my soul together.
Don’t know whether it’s morning or night,
Only know it’s sounding right.
So come on in and play me
Le jazz hot, baby,
‘Cos I love my jazz hot (vocal slide)
Le jazz hot!

The device, which we profiled about four years ago when it was still in prototype stage, uses ultrasound, conductivity and heat capacity in an ear clip sensor to take glucose readings in a matter of seconds. Integrity recently received European approval for the GlucoTrack and is now waiting for FDA’s blessings to market in the US.

Types of Measurement Techniques
Non-invasive glucose monitoring techniques can be grouped as subcutaneous, dermal, epidermal and combined dermal and epidermal glucose measurements.
Matrices other than blood under investigation include interstitial fluid, ocular fluids and sweat. Test sites being explored include finger tips, cuticle, finger web, forearm and ear lobe. Subcutaneous measurements include microdialysis, wick extraction, and implanted electrochemical or competitive flourescence sensors. Microdialysis is also an investigational dermal and epidermal glucose measurement technique. Epidermal measurements can be obtained via infrared spectroscopy, as well. Combined dermal and epidermal fluid glucose measurements include extraction fluid technqiues (iontophoresis, skin suction and suction effusion techniques) and optical techniques. The optical techniques include near infrared spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, raman spectroscopy, photoacoustic spectroscopy, scatter and polarization changes [4]. This overview is focused on a description of the optical techniques (Table 1) currently under development by diagnostic equipment manufacturers for glucose monitoring in diabetics- the fastest growing segment of diagnostic testing.
Common Features of Non-Invasive Optical Techniques
Non-invasive optical measurement of glucose is performed by focusing a beam of light onto the body. The light is modified by the tissue after transmission through the target area. An optical signature or fingerprint of the tissue content is produced by the diffuse light that escapes the tissue it has penetrated. The absorbance of light by the skin is due to its chemical components (i.e., water, hemoglobin, melanin, fat and glucose). The transmission of light at each wavelength is a function of thickness, color and structure of the skin, bone, blood and other material through which the light passes [4].
The glucose concentration can be determined by analyzing the optical signal changes in wavelength, polarization or intensity of light. The sample volume measured by these methods depends on the measurement site. The correlation with blood glucose is based on the percent of fluid sample that is interstitial, intracellular or capillary blood. Drs. Roe and Smoller [4] have devised the following example. The fluid viewed through the limb is 63% intracellular and 37% extracellular, of which 27% is interstitial and 10% plasma. A blood glucose value of 100mg/dl is equivalent to a tissue sample glucose average of 38mg/dl of which 26% is due to blood, 58% is due to interstitial fluid and 16% is due to intracellular fluid. What the tissue sample glucose means clinically in respect, to therapy is still under investigation.
Not only is the optical measurement dependent on concentration changes in all body compartments measured, but changes in the ratio of tissue fluids (as altered by activity level, diet or hormone fluctuations) and this, in turn, effects the glucose measurement. Problems also occur due to changes in the tissue after the original calibration and the lack of transferablity of calibration from one part of the body to another. Tissue changes include: body fluid source of the blood supply for the body fluid being measured, medications that affect the ratio of tissue fluids, day-to-day changes in the vasculature, the aging process, diseases and the person‘s metabolic activity.

Fluid Glucose Optical Measurement Strategies
Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR)
Glucose produces one of the weakest NIR absorption signals per concentration unit of the body‘s major components. NIR spectroscopy glucose measurement enables investigation of tissue depths in the range of 1 to 100 millimeters with a general decrease in penetration depth as the wavelength value is increased. NIR transmission through an ear lobe, finger web and finger cuticle or reflected from the skin of the forearm and lip mucosa has been attempted in the NIR region between 1000nm to 2500nm. NIR diffuse reflectance measurements have been performed on the finger and cuticle have shown good correlation with blood glucose but 10% of the predictions are not clinically acceptable [5].
Diffuse reflectance studies of the inner lip also have shown good correlation with blood glucose and indicated a time lag of 10 minutes between blood glucose and the measurement signal [6]. Salivary glucose levels (a component of lip measurements) did not reflect blood glucose levels. Physical and chemical parameters such as variation in pressure, temperature, triglyceride and albumin interfere with glucose measurement. Errors can also occur due to environmental variations such as changes in temperature, humidity, skin hydration, carbon dioxide, and atmospheric pressure [4]. Extensive valid dation and testing of the glucose prediction equation is needed to determine if the glucose correlation is consistent in all clinically important conditions in all types of patients.
Infrared Spectroscopy (IR)
The IR glucose measurement systems at the epidermal surface enables investigation of tissue depths in the range of 10 to 50 micrometers at using a wavelength band in the IR region from 700 to 1000nm [7]. These systems do not measure glucose in the blood containing tissues. An attenuated total reflection technique has been used for oral mucosa, however, the drawbacks include glucose contamination of the measurement site by food and a highly variable saliva of low rate [8]. Assays using used whole blood as the sample matrix, are subject to interferences due to albumin, red cells and gamma globulin and changes in temperature and pH. Further, saliva glucose varies considerably and does not reflect blood glucose methods [4].
Raman Spectroscopy
Raman spectroscopy measures scattered light that has been influenced by the oscillation and rotation of the scatter. Various raman techniques have been attempted in blood, water, serum, and plasma solutions and the eye, but multiple problems remain before human studies can be performed. Analytical problems include, instability in the laser wavelength and intensity, errors due to other chemicals in the tissue sample and long spectral acquisition times [4].
Photoacoustic Spectroscopy
Photoacoustic spectroscopy uses an optical beam to rapidly heat the sample and generate an acoustic pressure wave that an be measured by a microphone. The determination of glucose in blood [9], tissue phantoms [10] and humans [11] can provide greater sensitivity than conventional spectroscopy when specific physical parameters are favorable. Excellent correlation between the photoacoustic signal and blood glucose levels have been shown on index fingers of healthy and diabetic patients. The instrumentation is currently custom made, expensive and sensitive to environmental parameters. The technique is also subject to chemical interferences from biological molecules as well as physical interference from temperature and pressure changes.
Scatter Changes
Scatter measurement monitors the changes in tissue reduced scattering coefficient and is used for the determination of glucose in tissue phantoms and humans.
Increased glucose in the sample is proportional to an increase in the refractive index of the sample and thus the particle scattering properties of the sample are changed. Measurements on the abdomen of the diabetic patients showed excellent correlation between the scatter signal and blood glucose levels [12]. Many parameters contribute to a natural physiological drift of the scattering parameter. Methods are needed to compensate for the signal drift.
Polarization Changes
Although the change in optical signal by glucose is small, glucose is a good optical rotator. This characteristic has been used to conduct in-vitro glucose assays [13]. The intensity of light corresponds to the amount of light present. Skin is not a feasible site due to it‘s high light scattering properties. The eye‘s aqueous humor has been suggested and solution measurements have been published. Use of multiple wavelengths have been shown to minimize the poor specificity of this technique. Other optically active substances will interfere, with the analysis as will variations in the temperature and pH of the sample.

“What A Wonderful World”
I see trees of green,
red roses too.
I see them bloom,
for me and you.
And I think to myself,
what a wonderful world.
of course trees are green and roses are red: that is like saying “Trees are Trees”, “Roses are Roses”, “I am that/who I am; You are that/who you are” … and that’s that … and that is fully conformed with various Prime Directives of neutral non-interference non-shepherding in observing things … meaning observing without any ulterior motives such as with the desire that the observed object be your food, be your suspicions fulfillment, be your inspiration, be your mirror, be your muse, be your scapegoat, be your profit, be your source of information, etc. … thus observing a piece of food without any ulterior motive one might be able to see the food for what it is namely neutral chemical substances … thus as in note “what’s your hunger” and other notes, a revised lord’s prayer might very well say something thus “lord don’t give us or give us food depending on or so that ‘muo^n loa`i ddu+o+.c bi`nh thu+o+`ng so^’ng la^u; everyone live well and long'” … this is because though the parts might change, the whole, or ‘muo^n loa`i ddu+o+.c bi`nh thu+o+`ng so^’ng la^u; everyone live well and long’, never changes and is thus “stable” and thus if you predicate/condition your hunger/eating or whatever thinking/acting/sensing/etc. on ‘muo^n loa`i ddu+o+.c bi`nh thu+o+`ng so^’ng la^u; everyone live well and long’ you will inherit thu. la^y the unchanging stability of ‘muo^n loa`i ddu+o+.c bi`nh thu+o+`ng so^’ng la^u; everyone live well and long’ … your hunger or your filling/fulfilling will be moderated to sustainable/stable levels by ‘muo^n loa`i ddu+o+.c bi`nh thu+o+`ng so^’ng la^u; everyone live well and long’ … anyway, neutral Perpetual Motion of all things, a result of Original Sin of having/creating a world that’s not a point singularity but has size/shape, will cause the illusion of not giving and giving food … motion is feeding/eating … and anyway, observing without any ulterior motive [or equivalently with the zoroaster all-good absolutely positive “ulterior” motive of ‘muo^n loa`i ddu+o+.c bi`nh thu+o+`ng so^’ng la^u; everyone live well and long’] is “have eyes/ears/mouth but as though see/hear/say no evil” … and is “ca’i tha^’y kho^ng ta`n hoa.i” … comparable to “ca’i dde.p kho^ng ta`n hoa.i” in previous notes …
12/30/2014 It is through the Kōshin rite of folk religion that the most significant examples are presented. The Kōshin belief or practice is a Japanese folk religion with Chinese Taoism origins and ancient Shinto influence. It was founded by Tendai Buddhist monks in the late 10th century. A considerable number of stone monuments can be found all over the eastern part of Japan around Tokyo. During the later part of the Muromachi period, it was customary to display stone pillars depicting the three monkeys during the observance of Kōshin.
Though the teaching had nothing to do with monkeys, the concept of the three monkeys originated from a simple play on words. The saying in Japanese is mizaru, kikazaru, iwazaru (見ざる, 聞かざる, 言わざる?) “don’t see, don’t hear, don’t speak”.[clarification needed] However, -zaru, an archaic negative verb conjugation, is pronounced the same as zaru, the vocalized form of saru (猿?), “monkey”, so the saying can also be interpreted as the names of three monkeys.
Meaning of the proverb[edit]
Three wise monkeys on the beach in Barcelona.
Just as there is disagreement about the origin of the phrase, there are differing explanations of the meaning of “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.”
In Buddhist tradition, the tenets of the proverb are about not dwelling on evil thoughts.[3]
In the Western world both the proverb and the image are often used to refer to a lack of moral responsibility on the part of people who refuse to acknowledge impropriety, looking the other way or feigning ignorance.[3][12]
It may also signify a code of silence in gangs, or organised crime.[3]
Variations[edit]
Sometimes there is a fourth monkey depicted with the three others; the last one, Shizaru, symbolizes the principle of “do no evil”. He may be shown crossing his arms or covering his genitals.
In another variation, a fourth monkey is depicted with a sulking posture and the caption “have no fun”.
The source that popularized this pictorial maxim is a 17th-century carving over a door of the famous Tōshō-gū shrine in Nikkō, Japan. The carvings at Toshogu Shrine were carved by Hidari Jingoro, and believed to have incorporated Confucius’s Code of Conduct, using the monkey as a way to depict man’s life cycle. There are a total of 8 panels, and the iconic three wise monkeys picture comes from panel 2. The philosophy, however, probably originally came to Japan with a Tendai-Buddhist legend, from China in the 8th century (Nara Period). It has been suggested that the figures represent the three dogmas of the so-called middle school of the sect.
In Chinese, a similar phrase exists in the Analects of Confucius from 2nd to 4th century B.C.: “Look not at what is contrary to propriety; listen not to what is contrary to propriety; speak not what is contrary to propriety; make no movement which is contrary to propriety” (非禮勿視, 非禮勿聽, 非禮勿言, 非禮勿動).[9] It may be that this phrase was shortened and simplified after it was brought into Japan.
The three wise monkeys (Japanese: 三猿 Hepburn: san’en or sanzaru?, alternatively 三匹の猿 sanbiki no saru, literally “three monkeys”), sometimes called the three mystic apes,[1] are a pictorial maxim. Together they embody the proverbial principle to “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”.[2] The three monkeys are Mizaru, covering his eyes, who sees no evil; Kikazaru, covering his ears, who hears no evil; and Iwazaru, covering his mouth, who speaks no evil.
There are various meanings ascribed to the monkeys and the proverb including associations with being of good mind, speech and action. In the Western world the phrase is often used to refer to those who deal with impropriety by turning a blind eye.[3]

The noumenon /ˈnɒuːmɨnɒn/ is a posited object or event that is known (if at all) without the use of the senses.[1] The term is generally used in contrast with, or in relation to “phenomenon”, which refers to anything that appears to, or is an object of, the senses. In Platonic philosophy, the noumenal realm was equated with the world of ideas known to the philosophical mind, in contrast to the phenomenal realm, which was equated with the world of sensory reality, known to the uneducated mind.[2] Much of modern philosophy has generally been skeptical of the possibility of knowledge independent of the senses, and Immanuel Kant gave this point of view its classical version, saying that the noumenal world may exist, but it is completely unknowable to humans. In Kantian philosophy, the unknowable noumenon is often linked to the unknowable “thing-in-itself” (Ding an sich, which could also be rendered as “thing-as-such” or “thing per se”), although how to characterize the nature of the relationship is a question yet open to some controversy.

SEEING THINGS:
THE INTERNET, THE TALMUD AND ANAIS NIN

“We do not see things as they are, we see them
as we are.”
Anais Nin (1961)
This epigram (or something like it), is widely quoted on the Internet,
sometimes credited to the Cuban-French novelist Anais Nin and
sometimes to the Talmud.1
In a recent Newsweek article, Rabbi Marc Gellman refers these words to the Babylonian
Talmud, Tractate Berakoth 55b.3 However, what the Talmud actually
says there is—ein marin lo l’adam ela m’harhurei libo—“A man is
shown only what is suggested by his own thoughts.” The context of
this phrase is a Talmudic discussion about dreams; the epigram, however,
is about perception, not dreams. Neither the Babylonian nor
the Jerusalem Talmud supports the citation.4 Nor do the various
printed and on-line English translations of the Talmud support it.
How then, might the idea have suggested itself that the Talmud
had something to do with these words? For an answer to this question,
we look to the passage in Nin’s writing where the words in
question do appear. She writes: “Lillian was reminded of the Talmudic
words: ‘We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.’ ”5
Hence people must have gotten from Nin herself the idea that these
words come from the Talmud.
Anais Nin
Nin’s words come from her novel Seduction of the Minotaur.

The understanding of the Law of God, the Torah, was vital for their existence as a nation. The Jew had learned in the Babylonian captivity that he had to remain distinct from the heathen in both religious and secular life. Every aspect of his life was to be a constant reminder that he must remain distinct and holy. Beginning with Ezra, and all who followed, every word of the sages was memorized. This oral teaching was passed down and became the basis of the Talmud. The very explanation of the text became accepted as authoritative as the Scriptures themselves.
The Burdens Of The Oral Law
The word Talmud means “study” or “learning.” It consists of two parts. The older is called the Mishnah, which is a compilation of oral laws, and the Gemara, the second part, is the recording of the discussions. Basically the Talmud is referred to as the Oral Torah; whereas the Torah, or the Written Torah, is the five books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy).
The Jews believe that, according to tradition, not only the Written Torah was given to Moses at Mount Sinai but also the Oral Torah. Ancient tradition says, from Exodus 20:1, that God had communicated to Moses the Bible, the Mishnah, Talmud and the Haggadah (legends, folklore, parables, etc.) (Berakoth 5a). It is said Moses received all the law, oral and written, with all its interpretations and applications. He handed it down to Joshua, Joshua to the Elders, the Elders to the Prophets, and the Prophets to the men of the great assembly (Avot 1:1).

Descartes’ method[edit]
René Descartes, the originator of Cartesian doubt, put all beliefs, ideas, thoughts, and matter in doubt. He showed that his grounds, or reasoning, for any knowledge could just as well be false. Sensory experience, the primary mode of knowledge, is often erroneous and therefore must be doubted. For instance, what one is seeing may very well be a hallucination. There is nothing that proves it cannot be. In short, if there is any way a belief can be disproved, then its grounds are insufficient. From this, Descartes proposed two arguments, the dream and the demon.[2]

I see skies of blue,
And clouds of white.
The bright blessed day,
The dark sacred night.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.
The colors of the rainbow,
So pretty in the sky.
Are also on the faces,
Of people going by,
I see friends shaking hands.
Saying, “How do you do?”
They’re really saying,
“I love you”.
I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow,
They’ll learn much more,
Than I’ll ever know.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.
Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.
Oh yeah.
