Her mother arrived at Mount Sinai Hospital Thursday after an emergency call that she was in cardiac arrest at an Upper East Side clinic, Yorkville Endoscopy, sources said.

Hạ Vũ (chữ Hán: 禹; 2205 TCN – 2198 TCN[1] hoặc 2200 TCN – 2100 TCN [2]) là một vị vua huyền thoại ở Trung Quốc cổ đại nổi tiếng với về việc chống lũ, xác lập chế độ cha truyền con nối ở Trung Quốc bằng cách thành lập nhà Hạ và nhân cách đạo đức ngay thẳng của mình [3][4] . Tên khi sinh của ông là Tự Văn Mệnh (chữ Hán: 姒文命), thường được gọi là Đại Vũ (大禹).
Theo Sử Ký của Tư Mã Thiên, Vũ là cháu 5 đời của Hoàng Đế; cha của Vũ là Cổn là con trai út của Chuyên Húc; cha của Chuyên Húc là Xương Ý con thứ 5 của Hoàng Đế [5][6][7][8]. Vũ đã được sinh ra tại núi Long Sơn (tiếng Trung: 汶山), nay thuộc Bắc Xuyên, tỉnh Tứ Xuyên [9], mặc dù có ý kiến cho rằng ông được sinh ra ở Thập Phương [10]. Mẹ của Vũ là một người phụ nữ tên là Chí Nữ (tiếng Trung: 女志) hoặc Hi Nữ (tiếng Trung: 女嬉).
Khi còn là một đứa trẻ, cha Vũ là Cổn di chuyển người dân về phía đông Trung Nguyên. Vua Nghiêu phong cho Cổn làm người đứng đầu ở điạ điểm thường được xác định là gần núi Tung Sơn. Vũ do đó được cho là lớn lên trên sườn Tung Sơn, phía nam sông Hoàng Hà [11]. Sau đó, ông kết hôn với một người phụ nữ ở núi Đồ Sơn (tiếng Trung: 塗山), người thường được gọi là Đồ Sơn Thị (tiếng Trung: 塗山氏; nghĩa đen “Lady Tushan”) [12] và có một con trai tên là Khải, một tên nghĩa đen có nghĩa là “mặc khải” [12].

Yu the Great (Chinese: 大禹; pinyin: Dà Yǔ, c. 2200 – 2100 BC),[1] was a legendary ruler in ancient China famed for his introduction of flood control, inaugurating dynastic rule in China by founding the Xia Dynasty, and for his upright moral character.[2][3]
The dates proposed for Yu’s reign precede the oldest known written records in China, the oracle bones of the late Shang dynasty, by nearly a millennium.[4] Stories about his life and reign were transmitted orally in various areas of China, and first recorded in texts from the Western Zhou period (c. 1045–771 BC).[5] Many were collected in Sima Qian’s famous Records of the Grand Historian. Yu and other “sage-kings” of Ancient China were lauded for their virtues and morals by Confucius and other Chinese teachers.[6]
Yu is one of the few Chinese rulers posthumously honored with the epithet “the Great”.

According to several ancient Chinese records, Yu was the 8th great-grandson of the Yellow Emperor: Yu’s father Gun was the 5th great-grandson of Emperor Zhuanxu; Zhuanxu’s father, Changyi, was the second son of the Yellow Emperor.[7][8][9][10] Yu was said to have been born at Mount Wen (汶山), in modern day Beichuan County, Sichuan Province,[11] though there are debates as to whether he was born in Shifang instead.[12] Yu’s mother was of the Youxin clan named either Nüzhi (女志) or Nüxi (女嬉).
When Yu was a child, his father Gun moved the people east toward the Central Plain. King Yao enfeoffed Gun as lord of Chong, usually identified as the middle peak of Mount Song. Yu is thus believed to have grown up on the slopes of Mount Song, just south of the Yellow River.[13] He later married a woman from Mount Tu (Chinese: 塗山) who is generally referred to as Tushan-shi (塗山氏; “Lady Tushan”).[14] They had a son named Qi, a name literally meaning “revelation”.[14]
The location of Mount Tu has always been disputed. The two most probable locations are Mount Tu in Anhui Province and the Tu Peak of the Southern Mountain in Chongqing Municipality.[citation needed]
Great Yu Controls the Waters[edit]

During the reign of king Yao, the Chinese heartland was frequently plagued by floods that prevented further economic and social development.[15] Yu’s father, Gun, was tasked with devising a system to control the flooding. He spent more than nine years building a series of dikes and dams along the riverbanks, but all of this was ineffective, despite (or because of) the great number and size of these dikes and the use of a special self-expanding soil. As an adult, Yu continued his father’s work and made a careful study of the river systems in an attempt to learn why his father’s great efforts had failed.
Collaborating with Houji, a semi-mythical agricultural master about whom little is concretely known, Yu successfully devised a system of flood controls that were crucial in establishing the prosperity of the Chinese heartland. Instead of directly damming the rivers’ flow, Yu made a system of irrigation canals which relieved floodwater into fields, as well as spending great effort dredging the riverbeds.[9] Yu is said to have eaten and slept with the common workers and spent most of his time personally assisting the work of dredging the silty beds of the rivers for the thirteen years the projects took to complete. The dredging and irrigation were successful, and allowed ancient Chinese culture to flourish along the Yellow River, Wei River, and other waterways of the Chinese heartland. The project earned Yu renown throughout Chinese history, and is referred to in Chinese history as “Great Yu Controls the Waters” (Chinese: 大禹治水; pinyin: Dà Yǔ Zhì Shuǐ). In particular, Mount Longmen along the Yellow River had a very narrow channel which blocked water from flowing freely east toward the ocean. Yu is said to have brought a large number of workers to open up this channel, which has been known ever since as “Yu’s Gateway” (Chinese: 禹門口).[9]
Apocryphal stories[edit]
In a mythical version of this story, presented in Wang Jia’s 4th century AD work Shi Yi Ji, Yu is assisted in his work by a yellow dragon and a black turtle (not necessarily related to the Black Tortoise of Chinese mythology).[16] Another local myth says that Yu created the Sanmenxia “Three Passes Gorge” of the Yangzi River by cutting a mountain ridge with a divine battle-axe to control flooding.[17]
Traditional stories say that Yu sacrificed a great deal of his body to control the floods. For example, his hands were said to be thickly callused, and his feet were completely covered with callus. In one common story, Yu had only been married four days when he was given the task of fighting the flood. He said goodbye to his wife, saying that he did not know when he would return. During the thirteen years of flooding, he passed by his own family’s doorstep three times, but each time he did not return inside his own home. The first time he passed, he heard that his wife was in labor. The second time he passed by, his son could already call out to his father. His family urged him to return home, but he said it was impossible as the flood was still going on. The third time Yu was passing by, his son was older than ten years old. Each time, Yu refused to go in the door, saying that as the flood was rendering countless numbers of people homeless, he could not rest.[14][18]

The Nine Provinces[edit]

King Shun, who reigned after Yao, was so impressed by Yu’s engineering work and diligence that he passed the throne to Yu instead of to his own son. Yu is said to have initially declined the throne, but was so popular with other local lords and chiefs that he agreed to become the new emperor, at the age of fifty-three. He established a capital at Anyi (Chinese: 安邑), the ruins of which are in modern Xia County in southern Shanxi Province, and founded what would be called the Xia Dynasty, traditionally considered China’s first dynasty.[19]

Chuyện Ngu công dời núi

Ngu Công dời núi không phải là một chuyện thật, nhưng nó ai ai cũng biết tại Trung Quốc. Chuyện này ghi chép trong “Liệt Tử”. “Liệt Tử” là một cuốn sách do nhà triết học tên là Liệt Ngự Khấu viết vào thế ký thứ bốn, thứ năm trước công nguyên.
Chuyện kể rằng, có một ông lão, tên là Ngu Công, đã gần 90 tuổi rồi. Trước cửa nhà ông có hai ngọn núi lớn, một ngọn tên là Thái Hàng Sơn, một ngọn là Vương Ốc Sơn, mọi người ra vào rất không tiện.
Một hôm, Ngu Công triệu tập tất cả người trong nhà lại nói: “Hai ngọn núi này đã ngăn cản trước cửa nhà ta, ta ra cửa phải đi nhiều đường vòng oan uổng. Chi bằng chúng ta cả nhà ra sức, di chuyển hai ngọn núi này, mọi người thấy thế nào ?”
Các con, cháu Ngu Công nghe nói đều nói: “Ông nói đúng, từ ngày mai chúng ta bắt tay vào làm.” Thế nhưng, vợ Ngu Công cảm thấy dọn hai ngọn núi này khó quá, nêu ra ý kiến phản đối nói: “Chúng ta đã sống nhiều năm tại đây, làm sao lại không thể tiếp tục sống như thế này ? Huống chi, hai ngọn núi lớn như vậy, cho dù có thể di dời từng tí một, nhưng nơi nào có thể đổ nhiều đất đá xuống như vậy ?”
Lời nói của vợ Ngu Công lập tức khiến mọi người bàn luận, đây quả thực là một vấn đề. Sau cùng họ quyết định: Chuyển đất đá trên núi đổ xuống biển.
Ngày thứ hai, Ngu Công dẫn cả nhà bắt đầu dọn núi. Láng giềng của ông là một bà goá, bà có một đứa con trai, mới mười bảy, mười tám tuổi, nghe nói dời núi cũng vui vẻ đến giúp. Nhưng công cụ di dời núi của nhà Ngu Công chỉ là cuốc và gùi địu trên lưng, hơn nữa giữa núi và biển cả cách nhau xa xôi, một người một ngày không đi được hai chuyến. Một tháng làm việc, ngọn núi xem ra chẳng khác gì ban đầu.
Có một ông lão tên là Trí Tẩu, ăn ở đối xử rất tinh ranh. Ông thấy cả nhà Ngu Công dọn núi thì cảm thấy nực cười. Có một hôm, ông nói với Ngu Công rằng: “ông đã nhiều tuổi như vậy, đi lại đã không dễ dàng, làm sao có thể dọn được hai ngọn núi này ?”
Ngu Công trả lời rằng: “Tên ông là Trí Tẩu, nhưng tôi thấy ông còn không giỏi bằng con nít. Tôi tuy đã sắp chết, nhưng tôi còn có con trai, con trai tôi chết, còn có cháu, con cháu đời đời truyền cho nhau, vô cùng vô tận. Đất đá trên núi dọn đi chút nào thì ít đi chút ấy, không thể mọc thêm được. Chúng tôi ngày nào, tháng nào, năm nào cũng dọn, làm sao không thể dọn nổi ngọn núi ?” Trí Tẩu tự cho là thông minh nghe nói cũng không nói thêm được lời nào.
Ngu Công dẫn cả nhà, bất kể mùa hè nóng nực, hay là mùa đông giá lạnh, hàng ngày đi sớm về tối, không ngừng đào núi. Việc làm của họ cuối cùng đã cảm động Thượng Đế. Thượng Đế đã cử hai vị thần tiên xuống trần gian, dọn hai ngọn núi này, Thế nhưng chuyện Ngu Công dời núi luôn lưu truyền đến nay. Nó nói với mọi người, bất kể gặp phải việc khó khăn ra sao, miễn là có quyết tâm có nghị lực làm thì có thể thành công .

Ngu Công dọn núi
Phía nam Châu Ký, có hai quả núi Thái Hàng và Vương Ốc to bảy trăm dặm, cao muôn thước, cây cối rậm, ác thú nhiều, đi lại khó.
Ở chân núi có một cái nhà của ông lão tên là Ngu Công tuổi đã chín mươi.
Ngu Công thấy vì núi mà nhà ở chướng ngại, đường đi bất tiện, lấy làm bực tức. Một hôm cụ họp cả vợ con, người nhà lại bàn rằng:

– Ta muốn cùng lũ ngươi hết sức bạt phẳng hai quả núi này thì có nên không?

Ai nấy đều thuận. Chỉ có người vợ ngần ngại, hỏi vặn rằng:

– Sức ông không bạt nổi một cái gò, thì làm thế nào bạt được những hai quả núi? Mà dù cho có sức bạt được nữa, thì đất, đá định đem đổ đi đâu?
Ngu Công nói:

– Khuân đổ ra biển Đông.

Đoạn Ngu Công đem con cháu cùng cả họ ra phá núi, kẻ đục đá, người đào đất, kẻ đầu đội, người vai mang, hết ngày này sang tháng khác. Láng giềng có đứa bé mới tám tuổi, con người đàn bà góa, cũng xin đi làm giúp, hàng năm mới về một lần.

Gần miền có một ông lão khác, tên là Trí Tẩu thấy vậy, cười Ngu Công và can rằng:

– Sao khờ dại vậy! Mình thì tuổi tác, núi thì cao lớn, phá thế nào nổi!

Ngu Công thở dài nói:

– Ngươi không bền lòng. Bền lòng thì việc gì cũng phải được. Ngươi không bằng người đàn bà góa, đứa trẻ con thơ. Ta già, ta chết, đã có con ta. Hết đời con ta, đã có cháu ta, hết đời cháu ta đã có chắt ta, con con cháu cháu sinh hạ vô cùng mà núi thì bao giờ cũng vậy, lo gì không bạt nổi.

Trí Tẩu nghe nói, nín lặng, không trả lời.

Sau này vùng nam Châu Ký không có núi non chướng ngại, đi lại thuận tiện là nhờ có Ngu Công. (Liệt Tử)

Lời bàn:
Ta không tưởng tượng rõ núi Thái Hàng và núi Vương Ốc to lớn thế nào. Ta chỉ biết ở cái đời Ngu Công bấy giờ chưa có máy móc tinh xảo như bây giờ, mà đã bạt được núi, thì giỏi thật. Lại không kể phải thuê từng hàng nghìn vạn người để làm, chỉ người trong một nhà, một họ và ít người lân cận giúp tay vào mà cũng làm nổi. Ôi! Nếu quả như vậy, thì cái gương kiên nhẫn của Ngu Công thực đáng để truyền lại mãi cho muôn nghìn đời về sau này. Vả chăng chỉ một câu Ngu Công nói với Trí Tẩu, cũng nên ghi nhớ lắm. Sự kiên tâm không phải chỉ hạn chế trong một đời, nhưng cứ tiếp luôn đời ấy, đời khác ,theo đuổi mãi thì ở đời còn có gì gọi là khó được nữa. Ngu Công đây thật là người “đại trí được ngu” (người cực khôn, bề ngoài coi như ngu). Ngôn hành ông y như những câu sau đây cũng đều có ý khuyên chúng ta lập chí và kiên tâm để làm việc:

Ren (or Rén) (Chinese: 仁; pinyin: rén; Wade–Giles: jen) is the Confucian virtue denoting the good feeling a virtuous human experiences when being altruistic. 仁 is exemplified by a normal adult’s protective feelings for children. It is considered the outward expression of Confucian ideals.
Yan Hui, Confucius’s most outstanding student, once asked his master to describe the rules of Rén and Confucius replied, “One should see nothing improper, hear nothing improper, say nothing improper, do nothing improper.”[1] Confucius also defined Rén in the following way: “wishing to be established himself, seeks also to establish others; wishing to be enlarged himself, he seeks also to enlarge others.”[2] Another meaning of Rén is “not to do to others as you would not wish done to yourself.”[3] Confucius also said, “Rén is not far off; he who seeks it has already found it.” Rén is close to man and never leaves him.[4]
Interpretation of the Chinese character[edit]
The single ideogram Rén is a composite of two distinct common Hanzi, 人 (Man, a man, a person ) and 二 (two), with 人 assuming its common form inside another character, to which various interpretations have been assigned. One often hears that Rén means “how two people should treat one another”. While such folk etymologies are common in discussions of Chinese characters, they often are as misleading as they are entertaining. In the case of Rén – usually translated as “benevolence” or “humaneness” – Humaneness is Human-ness, the essence of being human. For Confucius the interaction of completely dependent infant and caring parent is the most emotionally charged human interaction, “To love a thing means wanting it to live…”.[5] The Way of humaneness is human interaction and through shared experience knowing one’s family. “Fan Chi asked about humaneness. The Master said it is loving people. Fan Chi asked about wisdom. The Master said it is knowing people”.[6] In other words, human love and interaction is the source of humaneness, the source of the human self. Another common interpretation of the graphical elements is Man or a man connecting Heaven and Earth.
人+二=仁 (rén) man on left two on right, the relationship between two human beings, means humanity, benevolence, seed. Originally the character was just written as丨二 representing yin yang, the vertical line is yang (male, penis, heaven, odd numbers), the two horizontal lines are yin (female, vagina, earth, even numbers), 仁 is the seed and core of everything. The character 人 (man, rén) and 仁 have the same pronunciation. When a human is unable to be humane, he or she does not qualify to be a human but an animal. But when a human is able to be humane, for example, when Buddhism first introduced to China in the Han Dynasty the Chinese people translated the Buddha’s name into “able to be human” or someone with ”ability and humanity” (能人,能仁) because Confucius’s teachings and Buddha’s teachings are “one to two, two to one.”
Pre-imperial epigraphic sources testify to alternative writings of the same character: 忎 (given as a variant of 仁 in the Shuowen dictionary), 身 with 心 below, and the latter compound with 人 on the right.[7]
The Principles of li, rén, and yi[edit]

The principle of Rén is related to the concepts of li and yi. Li is often translated as “ritual” while yi is often translated as “righteousness”. These three interrelated terms deal with agency as Confucians conceive it. Li is the action which has been deemed appropriate by society, yi is the action that is indeed correct, while Rén deals with the relationship between the agent and object of the action. Often li and yi are the same; however, that is not always the case.

Li is the outward expression of Confucian ideals, while Rén is both the inward and outward expressions of those same ideals. Li, according to Hopfe and Woodward: “Basically, li seems to mean ‘the course of life as it is intended to go’. Li also has religious and social connotations. When a society lives by li, it moves smoothly: men and women respect their elders and superiors; the proper rituals and ceremonies are performed; everything and everyone is in its proper place.”[8]

Nature of Rén[edit]

Rén relies heavily on the relationships between two people, but at the same time encompasses much more than that. It represents an inner development towards an altruistic goal, while simultaneously realizing that one is never alone, and that everyone has these relationships to fall back on, being a member of a family, the state, and the world.[9]

Rén is not a concept that is learned; it is innate, that is to say, everyone is born with the sense of Rén. Confucius believed that the key to long-lasting integrity was to constantly think, since the world is continually changing at a rapid pace.

There have been a variety of definitions for the term Rén. Rén has been translated as “benevolence”, “perfect virtue”, “goodness” or even “human-heartedness”.[10] When asked, Confucius defined it by the ordinary Chinese word for love, ai, saying that it meant to “love others”.[11]

Rén also has a political dimension. Confucianism says that if the ruler lacks Rén, it will be difficult for his subjects to behave humanely. Rén is the basis of Confucian political theory; the ruler is exhorted to refrain from acting inhumanely towards his subjects. An inhumane ruler runs the risk of losing the Mandate of Heaven or, in other words, the right to rule. A ruler lacking such a mandate need not be obeyed, but a ruler who reigns humanely and takes care of the people is to be obeyed, for the benevolence of his dominion shows that he has been mandated by heaven. Confucius himself had little to say on the active will of the people, though he believed the ruler should definitely pay attention to the wants and needs of the people and take good care of them. Mencius, however, did state that the people’s opinion on certain weighty matters should be polled.

Rén also includes traits that are a part of being righteous, such as hsin, meaning to make one’s words compliment his actions; li, which means to properly participate in everyday rituals; ching, or “seriousness”; and yi, which means right action. When all these qualities are present, then one can truly be identified as a chün tzu (君子), or “superior man,” which means a morally superior human being. Confucians basically held the view that government should be run by ethically superior human beings who concentrate solely on the welfare of the people they govern.

The Buddhist origins of the festival can be traced back to a story that originally came from India, but later took on culturally Chinese overtones, as the motifs “all appear in a tale that had already been translated into Chinese by the end of the fourth century”.[1] In the Ullambana Sutra, there is a descriptive account of a Buddhist monk named Maudgalyāyana, originally a Brahmin youth who later ordained, and later becoming one of the Buddha’s chief disciples. Man should give ear to true propositions “which are useful in this sense and not fritter away his energies in trying to solve metaphysical questions, pertaining to the origin and extent of the universe, for instance, which have no bearing on the moral and spiritual life. The parable of the arrow illustrates this well when it says that a man struck with a poisoned arrow should be concerned with removing the arrow and getting well rather than be interested in purely theoretical questions (about the nature of the arrow, who shot it, etc.), which have no practical utility. The parable of the raft has the same motive and is intended to indicate the utilitarian character of the truths of Buddhism in a spiritual sense. The Buddha says, “I preach you a Dhamma comparable to a raft for the sake of crossing over and not for the sake of clinging to it …” (M I 134). A person intending to cross a river and get to the other bank, where it is safe and secure, makes a raft and with its help safely reaches the other bank; but however useful the raft may have been, he would throw it aside and go his way without carrying it on his shoulders; so it is said that “those who realise the Dhamma to be like a raft should discard the Dhamma as well, not to speak of what is not Dhamma” (M I 135). The value of the Dhamma lies in its utility and it ceases to be useful though it does not cease to be true when one has achieved one’s purpose with its help by attaining salvation.

In 1947, Rocky D’Augustino, an orphan from New Haven, Connecticut, moved out west to California. One of the first things he discovered was that the wonderful pizza from his old neighborhood did not exist in his new hometown. Renting the old pharmacy building from the Mantelli family, Rocky introduced the first and only pizza house between Los Angeles and San Francisco. After nine years in business, Rocky decided to move north.
At that time, Frank D’Ambrosio Sr., also from New Haven, was looking for a business opportunity for his brother John and himself. When their WWII buddy, Luigi, expressed interest in joining his friends in the new venture, “Frankie, Johnnie, & Luigi Too!” was born.
In February, 1958, Frank and his wife, Concetta (Tina), along with Mario and Enza Volpe, opened the original Giorgio’s Pizza House at 1445 Foxworthy Avenue, in the Foxworthy Shopping Center in San Jose, California. In 1960, they sold out to Louise and Anthony D’Ambruoso, affectionately known as “Sash and Lou” who were cousins to the family.
“Sash and Lou” owned and operated Giorgio’s from 1960 to 1968, at which time, Frank and Tina’s four sons, Don, Nick, Frank and John purchased the restaurant. In 1972, they subsequently purchased “Frankie, Johnnie, & Luigi Too!” after the business changed hands briefly. Both restaurants are still owned and operated by the D’Ambrosio Family to this day, along with other locations throughout the Greater Bay Area.

This song has a tendency to make people happy when they hear it. Allee Willis, who wrote the song with Maurice White and Al McKay from Earth, Wind & Fire, describes it as “Joyful Music.” It was the first song Willis wrote with the band, and quite a learning experience. Says Willis: “Their stuff was very much based on Eastern philosophies, an incredibly positive outlook on life; the lyrical content of their songs was not typical of what would have been in Soul music at that time. So when I left the studio that first day, Maurice gave me the name of a book, it was called The Greatest Salesman [both chu’ kha and uncle dave lowe are salesmen] In The World, and he sent me to the Bodhi Tree, which is a very spiritual bookstore here in L.A. I got that and a bunch of other books that the saleswoman said was the philosophy. And what went from being a very simple experience turned into, for me, an incredibly complex experience. Because I dove into these books. And even the way they were written, the language they were written in, I kind of didn’t understand anything. But Maurice told me right from the jump he thought I was a very spiritual person, and I was put here to communicate. And I thought, if Maurice was saying that to me, I need to hang with this. I was pouring through these books for a couple of months. Lyrics started being 25-30 pages long as I’m trying to figure all this stuff out. Reading all that stuff changed me forever. He lead me to a path I’ve stayed on. So ‘September’ was fantastic and thrilling, and they had started the intro of it by the time I had walked into the studio to meet everyone. Just as I opened the door and I heard that little guitar intro, I thought, Oh God, please let this be what they want to work with me on. Because it was so obviously a hit.”
Although many people hear the first words in the chorus as “Party On,” it’s really “Bada-Ya.” Willis explains: “I absolutely could not deal with lyrics that were nonsensical, or lines that weren’t complete sentences. And I’m exceedingly happy that I lost that attitude. I went, ‘You cannot leave bada-ya in the chorus, that has to mean something.’ Maurice said, ‘No, that feels great. That’s what people are going to remember. We’re leaving it.’ We did try other stuff, and it always sounded clunky – thank God.”
While there are many theories as to the “21st night of September” in the opening lyrics, the truth is they just felt right. Says Willis: “Maurice had that very first line, and I said to him, ‘Why the 21st?’ Because I’m someone who likes to tie up all the ends very neatly, so if I’m saying the 21st, I want to know during the song what’s the significance. But he always told me there was no real significance. So whether that’s true or not I can’t say. But as far as I know, it’s just something that sang really well. And I would say the main lesson I learned from Earth, Wind and Fire, especially Maurice White, was never let a lyric get in the way of a groove. Ultimately it’s the feel that is the most important, and someone will feel what you’re saying if those words fit in there right. I do remember us experimenting with other dates, but 21st just sang phonetically fantastic.”

According to Maurice White, he got the idea for this song in an unlikely place: a hotel room in Washington DC while there was some kind of protest going on below. Said White, “there’s all these cats screaming and throwing things and going crazy and this tune just evolved.”
This was written specifically for Earth, Wind & Fire’s Greatest Hits album. It helped cross them over to a larger white audience.

Private Sector: China’s debt has swelled to more than 2 1/2 times the size of its economy, a sign Beijing will face difficulties as it seeks to expand, triggering to a financial crisis.
The world’s second-largest economy in June reached a total debt-to-gross domestic product ratio of 251 percent, up from 147 percent at the end of 2008, Standard Chartered Bank estimates.
The United States had a total debt-to-GDP ratio of about 260 percent by the end of last year, and Britain’s ratio was about 277 percent. Japan has the highest debt-to-GDP ratio at 415 percent, Standard Chartered estimates.
Economists are primarily concerned not that China has a high debt-to-GDP ratio but that China’s debt is rising so rapidly since financial turmoil usually follows such increases.
“Our analysis suggests that countries that see increases in debt-to-GDP of more than 30 percent in a decade — it’s often a warning sign,” said Mark Williams, Asia economist for Capital Economics. “China’s has grown 70 percent in five years.”
There’s been a slowdown in credit growth in the past few quarters, but debt is still expanding faster than GDP. In other words, risk is still building.
“What we need is for credit to be allocated more efficiently, to get a bigger economic bang for your buck,” Williams said. “Achieving that is not so easy.”
Chinese credit is predominately channeled through state-owned banks, and the companies first in line to receive the credit tend to be most connected to the government, or state-owned firms. Some of those firms backed by the state don’t generate profits.

Nếu người miền Bắc có kiểu hát ru con À ƠI mà nỗi buồn loang xa ra ngoài ngàn dặm, thì người phương Nam cũng có điệu hát ru ẦU Ơ đặc trưng, chuyên chở những câu ca dao mộc mạc, chân phương, lai láng tình người.

Trong số những bài ru của các bà mẹ, người chị miền Nam “VÍ DẦU CẦU VÁN ĐÓNG ĐINH” có thể xem như là một thí dụ tiêu biểu :

Mở đầu là một câu hát VÍ nhập đề ngẫu hứng bằng bốn chữ CẦU VÁN ĐÓNG ĐINH. Bốn chữ rất bình thường, rất đơn sơ, nêu bật hình ảnh chiếc cầu gỗ, được đóng bằng đinh ken vào nhau chắc chắn, một dạng cầu xem như … “kiên cố” thường thấy ở nông thôn thuở trước. Để rồi qua đó dẫn thẳng vào câu hai, một câu TỶ : đối chiếu, so sánh lập tức với chiếc CẦU TRE LẮT LẺO, GẬP GHỀNH một hình ảnh phổ quát ở miền quê phương Nam, tương phản hoàn toàn với chiếc cầu ván đóng đinh chắc chắn.

Tại những con kênh, rạch, mương, ngòi nhỏ người ta thường nối liền đôi bờ bằng cách bắc những chiếc cầu DỪA và nhất là cầu TRE, hai trong số những loại cây sống và phát triển rất mạnh mẽ ở nông thôn. Một chiếc cầu tre có thể gồm nhiều NHỊP, mỗi nhịp chỉ là một thân tre bắc nằm ngang, gác lên MỐ CẦU. Mố cầu gồm hai thanh tre cắm xuống lòng kênh rạch, bắt chéo nhau thành hình chữ X, được buộc lại chặt chẽ bằng dây lạt dừa hoặc … dây chuối. Cầu tre có thể có tay vịn giúp cho trẻ nhỏ và người già đi qua an toàn, nhưng cũng có thể không có tay vịn, khiến cho người ta mỗi khi qua cầu đều phải trổ thuật giữ thăng bằng của người … làm xiếc, bằng cách dang rộng hai tay và đi chân không … chạy ù qua cầu , càng nhanh thì càng dễ giữ được thăng bằng . Người nhát gan, qua cầu theo kiểu … “cà mà cập mập” rất dễ bị rơi tõm xuống nước ! Dân thành phố đứng trước loại cầu này kể như … không rét mà run ! (Bản thân tôi khi mới “đương đầu” với những chiếc cầu tre, thường là phải thốt lời tỉ tê dịu ngọt :-“Dzắt anh wa dzí !” )

Đơn sơ như thế, tầm thường như thế nhưng chính chiếc cầu tre lại trở thành tiêu biểu, đặc trưng, trở thành hồn quê, hồn nước như chiếc nón lá, chiếc áo dài Việt Nam vậy. Người đi xa quê hương thoáng nhớ đến hình ảnh chiếc cầu tre không thể nào tránh khỏi lưu luyến, bùi ngùi.

Hậu quả của tính chất lắt lẻo, gập ghềnh của cầu tre là KHÓ ĐI. Từ hai chữ “Khó đi” ấy, lời ru dẫn nhập vào câu ba bằng cách lặp lại và khẳng định : “KHÓ ĐI, MẸ DẮT CON ĐI” nêu bật tình mẫu tử bao la, việc khó nào mẹ cũng gánh vác, đỡ đần cho con, đặc biệt khi ta còn thơ ấu, việc nào cũng khó, khó nào cũng phải nương cậy vào nơi mẹ cả.

Tứ thơ đột ngột chuyển sang phần kết thúc bằng câu bát : “CON ĐI TRƯỜNG HỌC, MẸ ĐI TRƯỜNG ĐỜI” với hình thức Mỹ từ pháp Tiểu đồng dạng “Con đi …, mẹ đi …”, đậm đà chất thơ. Đồng dạng vì cả con lẫn mẹ đều gặp khó, đều phải đối diện cùng những chiếc cầu tre lắt lẻo, gập ghềnh vô hình trong cuộc đời. Đồng dạng nhưng dị biệt vì mức độ khó khăn của mẹ trong trường đời khó khăn hơn cái khó của con trong trường học nhiều. Hơn nữa, con khó còn có mẹ giúp (Khó đi, mẹ dắt con đi), ngược lại, khi mẹ gặp khó thì chẳng có ai giúp cả, giữa gió mưa giông tố của đời, mẹ phải cắn răng độc lập xoay sở lấy một mình

Trong 4 câu lục bát trên đây, ngoài câu một nhập đề ngẫu hứng, câu hai là câu tỷ giảo (so sánh) , nội dung chính yếu của bài ru tập trung trong hai câu sau :
